Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), former Centar for Genetic Engineering, was founded in 1986 with the idea of intensifying the development of molecular biology and molecular genetics, as well as application of fundamental research in practice. Today, it is the leading Serbian research institution in the field of molecular genetics, and employs over 150 scientists engaged in research in the field of human, plant and microbial molecular genetics.

On Friday, IMGGI celebrated its 40th anniversary with a program held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. The plenary lectures were delivered by former members of the IMGGE team, Dr. Aleksandra Trifunović and Dr. Irena Paštar. Guests from partner institutions and companies that have collaborated with IMGGI for many years participated in two panel discussions, “Trends and Challenges in Biotechnology” and “Sustainability of Biomedical Research.” These included representatives from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy, NALED, TAKEDA, ELTA 90 MS, and EUTA.
